We must have a theme, a goal, a purpose in our lives. If you don’t know where you’re aiming, you don’t have a goal. My goal is to live my life in such a way that when I die, someone can say, she cared.

4th of July is by far my favorite holiday. Fireworks, Family, Friends and Fun. Bikinis, Boats, Beer and BBQs. No expectations, no pressure. I am so lucky to have experienced some of the most epic 4th of July’s ever!
This 4th of July I’m sitting on my couch listening to the fireworks and reminiscing about all the wonderful ones I have been apart of. The photos above show the last 3 … ALS 4th of July’s.
The first one was July 2015. I had officially stopped working and moved onto the boat in San Diego. We were still full of hope and having fun. (Seriously look how tan we were!) We knew what ALS was and we knew we had a timeline but we still didn’t “get it”. We had spent the day fishing and enjoying family and friends and then cruised the bay for one of the most mind…

“Change isn’t easy… changing the way you live means changing what you believe about life. That’s hard… When we make our own misery, we sometimes cling to it even when we want so bad to change because the misery is something we know. The misery is comfortable.” – Dean Koontz
A lot has happened in the past year. Good and bad. I laughed, cried, got my heart broken. I thought things couldn’t get worse, then they did. Then I thought things couldn’t get any better, and… lo and behold, they did.
And I changed. As a person. I began to see myself in a different light. I began to see the world around me differently.
I realized how powerful my thoughts really were. I used to be this negative person, a pessimist. I used to think that I wasn’t much, that the world around me wasn’t much. I used to…

Have Hope, Keep Faith…
In my lifetime the world has changed rapidly. The world is evolving faster every day. And every aspect of our lives changes according to this new world, according to our vision of the world.
Love, or the way we perceive it, has changed as well. Some say that we have grown to enjoy being alone, that we enjoy the idea that technology can imitate real interaction. We text, we e-mail, we skype, we like, we comment, and, yet, we often find ourselves asking, “What is love?” or, more importantly, “What is love supposed to feel like?”
Sometimes we tend to analyze stuff for longer than necessary. Most times we like to believe that life was better, funnier in a distant past we will never be able to go back to. The place and time we live in is never as wonderful as those million worlds we imagine or dream about.

Warmth tempts my berry tipped toes
to the opening of my den.
I crouch by new grass blades
sharp with the bitter scent of promise.
I am spring born.
What was my life before this long darkness?
Before this crescent edge of sun?
Do the trees stand exactly as they used to,
cutting out room for my shadow
in their own greater shade?
Does the river carve out the spots where I used to stand
in hopes that my feet will
nestle in its water again?
I take one step forward
I am spring born.
This is really exciting news! I have lots of voice recordings from my Digital Media classes.
This news is both moving and a profound reason for hope! When I was diagnosed three years ago, voice banking would have taken eight hours, and I simply didn’t have the strength – or money – for such an endeavor. As you will see in the video, this company was able to recreate this man’s voice with only three hours of recording. Maybe one day, my half hour of recording will be enough to get my voice back!
“I’m shouting hard… This is the start!”
